Can't beat the heat!

Thought I would get some feedback on the cooling issue I'm having.

For the guys on the Mclean Creek run last weekend; it was the fan clutch. I've been lucky this week because now the opposite is happening, the fan stays on all the time. I know that it is the fan clutch because now when I rev up there is a loud screech that comes from the clutch pack.

My dilema is wether to replace the fan clutch or to replace the whole fan with an electric one. A new fan clutch is $260 from Tower and there are many variations of electric fans in all price ranges. I'm sure tons of people have had this same issue in the past, but I would like to hear both sides of it. I know some of the advantages of going electric like being able to turn the fan off while crossing water, gaining some horse power back from the lack of drag that a fan and belt cause, and the higher rpm fan durring idle.

I don't know if replacing the original fan with an electic one is a simple task (seems simple in theory), but there are enough people out there running electric fans that I'm sure I would have a ton of assistance. Does any one know of a good replacement option at a resonable price? (this single dad thing has tought me to watch my pennies).

I did my fan clutch about 8 months ago.  I can't remember for the life of me what I paid.  However since I can't remember, it can't have been near that much.  I would encourage you to do it soon since if it goes you may have your fan go through your rad like I did.  That'll make it more than double the price.  Is that fan clutch price installed?  That seems really high.

I measured my rad and went to pick and pull and got a fan out of an 80's chev car FWD that fit perfectly to my rad. Grabbed that and the high speed heater fan relay (to work the fan) for less than 15 bucks.

For temp control I  got a thermostat thingy that goes into your rad hose from Mopac (used for racing cars) 35 bucks. Wired it all up with a switch to turn it off in deep water and it works great. And if you have a 4 cyl you will now have about two feet between the engine and the fan (much easier to work on the engine now).
