93 yj front drive shaft
« on: July 25, 2006, 07:05:28 PM »
so heres the deal, i have bent 3 front drive shafts in the past year, getting kinda tired of it. I'm just wondering if there is any other stronger drive shafts avaibable, with out having to spend a ton of cash on a custom one. Like would a drive shaft from a xj fit as they seem to be a bit bigger.
thanks

XJ is a CV shaft, so different yoke at the T-case.

But you might be able to get one and have dsi cut it down to.

By the end of the day, that would cost almost as much as DSI building you one from scratch.

Worth a call to find out I guess.

Or you can change the t-case yoke and use a TJ shaft. Slightly smaller then a xj, but a lot bigger then those little yj's.

Or you can try for a 95 YJ shaft, they have about the same tube as a TJ, but no CV.

Actually a YJ shaft will bolt up to a XJ t-case, so I would say that an XJ shaft will bolt up to a YJ t-case.

Unless there are some older XJ's witn normal shafts, a CV yoke has no threads. A YJ yoke is threaded.

Only way you get a YJ shaft in an XJ is to U bolt it. If you can get the nuts on (doubtfull).

Trying to bolt a CV to a threaded yoke doesnt work, they are both threaded.

You could drill out the YJ to pass the CV bolts through it, but probably not ideal.

Not to mention, why add a CV joint and extra u joint to a set up if you dont need it. Just more maintenance.

The XJ t-case came with a CV shaft in the front.  Maybe going the other way does not work.
