I have been getting alot of calls from these telemarketers

NCO Customer Management 1-866-233-2777
NCO also known as NCO Finicial Systems, Allied Interstate, First Contact (USA) CBCL (Canada) Address 3000 Corporate Exchange Drive
Columbus, OH 43231 part of IRMC group of companies http://www.irmc.com/ushome/index.cfm

Why so many different company names? My guess is its a scam. I normally get 6 of these companies calling each day, hanging up after my voicemail kicks in.

Other companies that annoy the heck out of me
CPAA 1-780-481-2694
Infoline Canada Family Action Coalition 1-800-710-4153
Infoline Hockey Hall of Fame Classic Tour 1-800-318-1324
Consumer Choice Meat & Grocery 1-780-669-0309

Infoline has the exact same automated system on both numbers/Causes, another scam.

That is an average day on my Caller ID. Luckily, I look at my caller id when the phone rings. Any number that comes up 1-800, or 1-866 or 1-780 (northern alberta) or UNAVAILABLE or Private Caller - I never pick up. I just hit the ring mute button. Thank god that doesnt happen on my cell. My Family can get me anytime. I never even look at my caller id with my cell phone, always just pick it up, knowing every time, it will be family or friends calling me.

The CRTC, Canada's telecommunications and broadcasting regulator, issued a decision on May 21, 2004 which strengthens the regulations for telemarketers in Canada. The tougher rules are a result of extensive public consultations, and are effective October 1, 2004.

At the same time, the CRTC came out in support of the creation of a Do Not Call list, however it said the effective implementation of such a list and registry would require

adequate start-up funding
the appointment of an administrator of the list and database
the ability to charge fees to cover ongoing administrative expenses, and
the power to impose penalties on persons violating rules.
All of these would require new legislation.

Company-specific Do Not Call Requests

If a customer asks to be put on a company's Do Not Call list, telemarketers must act on the request during the same call, and not require the customer to call another number or take any other action.
Telemarketers must provide a unique registration number to any customer making a Do Not Call request to confirm receipt of the request.
When receiving a Do Not Call request, the telemarketer must ask if the customer wants the request to apply to just the specific organization's list, or to the telemarketer's full list of organizations.

So..... Answer the phone, ask to be put on the do not call list, and you should be fine :)

Also the CRTC does not allow telemarkers to call cell phones whatsoever. If someone EVER trys to market you on your cell... take thier info and nail them to the wall. The CRTC loves to stick it to these buggers.

O.K. Thanks alot for that information, it helps out alot.

I have always phoned these companies back and a few of them do have the Do-Not-Call option. But they always end up phoning me back. Heck one number just phoned me right now, I picked up because I was bored, knowing it was a telemarketer. I thought it was one of those automated dialers, no answer, I kept on the line and no one was there. I phone it back and its a fast busy. Its like how the Tele-Ride gets for city tranist around 6-7pm.

I plan to get the 1800 block and private number block from telus tonight. Id even pay for it. I hope the 1800 block also includes 1866. I wonder if I can ad numbers to the list. Anyway I will contact telus and get more info.

Thanks Again

one of the trickier ones I've been getting lately is this scam...

You've just won a carribian cruise and $10,000 in spending money.
Please press 9 to be connected to a representative to claim your prize.

translation...

please press 9 to be connected to a $25/minute leeching service located in the carribian with ties to an offshore bank account.

I hate those buggers... wish I could press 9 and connect my fist to the face of the scammer on the other end.

FiEND BWHAHAHAHAHA...

I've learned something about all those massive fund raisers and bizillion $ lotteries. Most the funds raised DOES NOT go to cause, no big suprise I know....but. It goes towards the marketing and promotions firm that has the contact for the charity.

So if you buy $100 lottery ticket thinking most of it goes to the people that need it... think again. There are American firms that are VERY VERY good at marketing lotteries and charities. They take most of the $ to cover "costs".

I've got no problem helping charities... i have a big problem when most of the $ goes to waste and red tape. Especially American red tape.

Here’s the typical conversation I have with telemarketers:

Them: Hello is ******* available?

Me: Yeah, just hold on a second…

Then I put the phone down (don’t hang up) and watch TV, take a leak, whatever for about 5 miuntes

Then I pick up the phone

Me: Are you still there?

Them: yes,

Me: Ok, just another second, he/she'll be right here

Then I put the phone back down (don’t hang up) and go back to the TV or whatever

This usually keeps them tied up for another few minutes until they finally give up.

I do this 3-4 times in a row, and the calls stop for a couple of months.

Hey Vinman... I do that too.

Sometimes I act really excited that they called... saying stuff like "Holy bleeping bleep!!! That's the bleeping bleep bleep best bleeping deal I've heard all bleeping day!!!! Sign me up right bleeping now!!!" Then when they ask for my info I say, can you hang on a sec, someone just rang the doorbell. Then I set the phone down and forget about it.

bleeping telemarketers...

I have found that having an unlisted phone number really helps with the number of telemarketing calls I receive.
