Best 4" Lift for a YJ
« on: February 29, 2008, 02:55:51 PM »
Alright it's that time of year.

I have been looking at upgrading my lift kit on my jeep.
I am not ready to do a SOA so I have narrowed it down to the RE 4.5" Extreme Duty
or the BDS 4.5".

I have heard lots of people having the RE lift but no body having the BDS.
Wondering what you YJ Guroos would chose.  I wonder if the RE sags at all
just because of how much it flexes and that will sag over time plus I got the Hard top
and I am usually Packed full when camping so that weighs me down a lot.
I know BDS has an option where I can get The rear springs swapped out for 2 Front
stronger springs.

Any help would be appreciated.  I am looking at keeping the price under 1500.
So a Coil conversion is too much.  Any other great lift kits out there that are in the 4-4.5"
range that I should look at.

Thx

i think eventually all springs sag.  i had issues in my xj with RE leaf springs sagging prematurely .  doesn't mean they all will.

BDS makes good stuff.  i have never done their yj kit, but i've done tons of chevys and dodges and they are a well designed and put together kit.  they also have the no bullshit if it breaks they replace it warranty.

Ya I figured that all lifts would sag.  That is why I wanna get a new one.  I got a 2.5" Rancho and it
is a few years old and is saging a fair amount.
I talked to a guy at NSOR and they seemed to talk really positive about BDS's warranty.

I've heard nothing but good about BDS.  Their lifetime warrenty is probably the best, it sags, breaks , bend or if you even cut it they'll replace them

Those 2 lifts are pretty good choices in that range.  I have read of a good mix of people that have had great success with RE and others that the lift sagged pretty quick.  The lift comes pretty tall and then it settles to ride height.  There are a lot of people that are happy with the BDS lift and if you want more opinions good to Jeeps Unlimited, there are a lot of guys there running BDS.

The thing that can make or break a lift though is shocks.  Don't cheap out on shocks like procomps or low end ranchos, spend the money and get a good set.

I am not sure what tire size you plan on running but you will definitely have enough room for 33s, but 35s you will need more room.

Ya I have 33's now and they will be there till I get a stronger rear end.
I do however have a 1.25" body lift so I would be able to fit 35's under if I wanted.
But the D35 is to weak.  Ya I have heard a lot of great things about BDS.
As for shocks I know BDS's kits comes with shocks.  I have rancho's now
and I will never get them again.
