I am wondering what year of CJ would be the best for a build up. I was thinking about 83-86 because that is those are the years of the dana 300 (I think they are?), I would eventually like to swap in a 360 down the road (Dreaming). I was thinking about going with a 4.5" RE suspension lift along with a 2" body lift. For tires I was thinking 35's or 36's either Boggers or TSL SX tires with possibly some cut out flares....
Will the stock axles hold up to these tires?
Is anyone else running a similar setup?
Does anybody have any pictures of this similar setup?
Are there any problems that might come up running this setup?
Oh ya, this is not going to be a pavement princess....lol :)

i believe the dana 44 rear came out in 82.  my heep has a dana 300 in er, and she is a 81.  Right now it is running a mild 350, sm 465, and stock axles (dana 30, amc 20).  it is running 32s, and i never broke anything offroad.  i would think with 35's and a strong engine, you would want to upgrade the axles.  When i get home, i am finally going to get my scout dana 44's under it, but i am unsure if i should do a spring over at the time.

As for putting a 360 in it, you would have to swap the tranny too. Maybe grabing an old waggy would be the best way to go.  you could take the drive train and axles and swap them.  I've heard that that a fiero rad will fit right in and should prevent overheating.

Hope this helps.

I've got a 79 CJ7, D44 up front, AMC20 in the rear. The AMC20 has one piece axles and a locker. I've already got a 360 with a Turbo 400. I went from 32's to 35's and am a bit under geared at the moment, but no complaints other wise. I haven't really been out on many trails lately, but hopefully this summer we'll see how well it performs with the upgrades.
