Newbie with lots of questions

I have recently bought a 1995 YJ with the 4 cylinder engine. I will be lifting it and was wondering what diferential gear ratio would I need if I was to run 35" tires

Also where is the best place to buy stuff in town?


Any answers would be greatly apprecaited.

35's and a 4 cylinder will not be a good combo, you will not have enough power, no matter how you gear it, to get down any kind of road over 85 kph.

I would recommend going to a max. of 33's until you want to swap the motor for something with more jam.

35s on any YJ becomes expensive, the reason being, the rear axle.  You have a D35 which I have seen people break on 31s and 35s.  Now with the 4 banger and the stock axles, the lowest you can go is 4.88s, but I would recommend that ratio for 33s (stock ratio is 4.10).  Ideally for 35s and a 4 banger you would want to be around the 5.13 - 5.38 range, but that would involve front and rear axle swaps.

If you plan on doing an engine swap in the future then go with 35s and 4.88s and live with it, as 4.88s with the 4.0L would be very nice.

my buddy a few years back was running 4.88s with 35 inch tires(YJ with the 4 banger),it was ok,worked good,but he wanted more power.....and when he added it,he blew apart the dana 35.....

if your not planning on lots of swaps,I wouldn't go over 33's,with 4.88s,but thats just my opinion
