And I'm Jeepaholic.
There I've said it.
Alot of people here know me, or know of me. I have owned, and built 8 Jeeps. Each one I have spent lots of time and money on. I build them, wheel them once or twice and then sell them. Why do I do this?
Well, it wasn't always this way. I owned my First Jeep (TJ) for 2 years. I bought it new off the lot, and I said it would never go off road. Then my brother convinced me to follow him into a constrution site in Martindale (he was in a beat up Jimmy) and from there I caught the bug. I started slowly with the usual "new Jeep owner parts". Light bar, tail light guards, chrome bumpers etc. Then I moved to Ontario and out of bordom (I was unemployed at the time), took my basically stock TJ into, what I though, was a cool looking trail (remember, I was completely green). Long story short, it was private land, I got stuck, walked out and came back with a tow truck to find my Jeep chained to a tree with a ransom note on the windshield that read "be here at 5 pm sharp and bring lots of cash or, thanks for the Jeep...signed, us". As it turned out, the tow truck driver knew the owner and got my arse out of trouble. Now with all the confusion (and fear), I hopped in my Jeep and went to take off, not realizing that my e-brake was on. I was in 4 low and I blew the t-case to smitherines. I also damged the teeth on the rear gears, and the rear driveshaft. It was an expensive experience ($250 tow bill, $250 to the land owner for not suing me, and $40 for the caar wash to conceal the evidence). I got VERY LUCKY that the service manager felt sorry for me and had the parts relpaced under warranty. After that I decided it might be a good idea to join a Jeep club...so I joined the London and Area Jeep Owners Club. From there I did Bobcaygeon and the rest was History.
I ended up moving back to Calgary and sinking lots of money into my Jeep (lift, tires, spare top, winch, etc). I was evn there when the CJA was first formed by John Weisbritch, Lemon aid Jay, Milan and even Steve (the Jeep God) Waco. Inevitably, I had to sell it as the payments were too much for a single guy with a crappy job and no direction in his life.
I got my life figured out, met my wife and got a great job...thus, the Cablesmurf was born!
I was in need of a new vehicle because my 84 Bronco II was dying a slow and painful death. My brother offered to sell me his 91 XJ Laredo for $2500. I was skeptical because it had 280k on it but I bought it anyway as it was wayyyy better than my Bronco. Of course the Jeep bug was still in me, and over the years I couldn't shake it. I built up the XJ like there was no tomorrow. I owned that one for 2 years and wheeled it alot. I learned alot from guys like Milan, Crazy Davey, and Woolf. As my wife and I were trying to make a life for ourselves, I had to prioritize the things in my life, and the Jeep wasn't one of them. I sold it to Turbo (forum name) and missed it dearly. After that, I owned and built 6 more Jeeps and sold them for various reasons:
1989 Comanche - Sold to XJNick (was not practical...)
1992 Cherokee Sport - Sold to Cody (was not what I wanted)
1994 Grand Cherokee - Sold to a friend of my wife (she offered me double what I paid for it)
1999 TJ - Sold in the Bargain finder (Had to buy my work van)
1989 Cherokee Limited (Parted out to finish the renos on my house) This still brings a tear to my eye!!!
1995 Grand Cherokee - Sold in the Auto trader (wanted to build a Tracker...I know, I know.... )
1994 Geo Tracker - Sold to Ol Doc (wanted to pay off my credit card, and I wasn't driving it often enough)
