I was out in canmore this past weekend and decided to throw the Calgary and area trail maps on on the GPS, just to check out any documented trails. I found a trail called "Riders of Rohan".
If your familiar with the Lord of the Rings, you'd recognize the name, Riders of Rohan, as the Horse mounted soldiers of the province of Rohan. I wanted to check it out but never had time.

This trail is located by a road marked "742" and it runs threw canmore creek. Also other trails in the area are; the south end of Rundle trail, Reclaimer Trail, & Stone's Canyon.

Curious as to whether this is a hiking trail only, or whether you can take your rig on it. Anyone ever been there?

Riders of Rohan and Reclaimer are both hiking/mountain biking trails. I did them this past summer on my bike. It was pretty knarly. I would assume the other trails are hike/bike only.

yea I wasnt sure. I know there is a lot of hiking trails and not much for a 4 wheeler. Thought I would ask out b4 heading there and getting disapointed.
A friend who lives there showed me a nice little crawler spot out in exshaw. There is a mostly dried up all rock creek bed. I think the trail name was Jura Creek trail. Anyways, that was the first time I ever thought I might flip the tj. Half a second too late depressing the clutch and she might have rolled front drivers corner. Pretty tricky crawl site, even walking the routes and adjusting any problem areas prior to driving. I think the next jeep will be a rubi unlimited for that longer wheelbase edge.

That trail is within the town of Canmore.  Off roading is not a good idea.  Everything south is Kananaskis.  Also not allowed.........

Only things within 2 hours of Calgary (on public land) are a few trails in Waiparous and Mclean creek (except in the winter......

Basically, this is a black hole.

well i didnt know that. I followed a friend who lives there and assumed he knew what trails are legal and what are not. he seemed to know which ones would get your license revoked and which would not.
