any one running 36" Iroks
« on: April 18, 2008, 06:36:37 PM »
I am about to get my new rubber and want to see if any one is running the same tire (36x13.5x15) and if they had any troubles rubbing in the rear or on cornering in the front. I am running a 10" rim just not sure about the offset. Just a little stressed so  ease my stress load.

I'm running a 36X13.5 on a 16" rim. Was on an XJ with 9" of and full size axles. Mine are Bias Plys. They come in both radial and bias. The radial ride much better but are more money. I don't see much street action so I went with the bias. For balancing I used stainless steel BB's from Walmart. A pack of BBs and a small weigh scale cost me under $20. I think I used either 6 or 9 ozs per tire. You just break the bead then dump them in there and air it back up.

I have mine on an 8" rim, did this so I could air down more and not lose the bead. BTW these tire are extremly tough. I hit a 2 foot boulder at about 50km/h. The rim , lower control arm and the mount for that control arm was shoved back up into the body and destroyedl. Tire was fine.

Mine have been wearing fine. My rear end is spooled(welded) and I have no unusal wear or feathering. The first thing you will notice when you get them is that the tread depth is very shallow. You would think they were half worn. But, thats the way they are and they still work great. They are an awesome all round tire, work great in snow/ice, rock and mud. I think because of the shallow tread they  tend to float on top rather than dig in and down.

They are a fairly soft tread and mine took a beating rock crawling in Moab. For here they are a great all round tire but I wouldn't use them on an exclusive off road crawler.

You say you are worried about rubbing but didn't say what your rig is or how much lift you have.

thanks for all the info. I have a TJ and 4" sus lift and a 3" body so I wasn't worried about the size just the width and I am done installing now and have no trouble cornering and about 1" clearance on my coil at the top so I am going to look into a spacer for the rear because I am putting in an 8.8 and loosing 1.5" overall axle width so yah, I am interested to see how they work out. I am often in cow town and have no one to wheel with so we are going to have to get to know some of yall fellow jeepers.

check the specs on those 36" iroks. one size up is the 37" and the actual spec between the two isnt much size differenct at all.
