2001 TJ
« on: July 10, 2008, 10:43:22 PM »
Okay boys and girls... all I have to say is "Mission Accomplished!". My Jeep addiction is contagious.
My wife wants a TJ. The one she has in mind is a 2001 TJ. We are going to check it out this weekend.

What are the problems that I need to be aware of with these units? (hopefully the list is short....)

Thanks,
T

the biggest concern is the red itchy rash they give you, and it may burn when you pee...

I have a 2001 Sahara. The only reason it keeps needing repairs is the abuse I put it through. 2001 is one of the years that featured the on/of switch for the passenger air bags. Good option for someone with kids.  Some of the TJ/Saharas had Dana 44 rear ends and some have Dana 35. Try to find a TJ with the Dana 44 rear end. Also some have 3:07 gears that suck for building the rig up.  3:07 gears and any tire combo larger than stock sucks.  Some other 6cyl in that year had the (3:73?) I think.

Thanks!! that was a sweetly short list. I will definitely check for the D44.
I may have to borrow your ointment Dave, if your rash has finally disappeared....

I'd check the rear main seal, look for fresh oil leak.
If air filter and oil are Black & Nasty you pretty much know how the thing was maintained. Seen alot of those for sale recently   :(
Don't want the woman driving around in a clunker  :)

Definately look for the Dana 44's and maybe  4:10 gears, 4:1 T-case, stock lockers, she'd probably appreciate an automatic... Hey, sounds just like that nice rubicon in the for sale section    ;D

"Hey, sounds just like that nice rubicon in the for sale section     ;D"

LOL!!! Yeah, almost. Except this one was standard, hot pink, needed 5 new tires, a muffler, center console, shift knob, rear seat, did not come with a hard top, did not have a D44... but, it was only $5500....

I passed on it for one reason or another, just pick one. Yours looks way nicer, but I don't have $22000.

I hope hot pink isn't one of the reasons you passed on it. thats a kickass colour, and you'd look super cool in a pink jeep ;)  you'd show all those big boys in their red and black jeeps that girls can play too LOL

seriously, DO IT
~ rescue green JKUR on 35s.  typical rubicon build

ummmmmmmm.... no, but thanks Johnny....

Bought a yellow automatic (wife cannot drive standard yet). 2001 with 69,000kms on it. Hence the reason why her Escape is for sale.
I think I may have to get a TJ myself..... sweet little ride.
