Blown radiator - stuck on a mountains
« on: October 26, 2008, 07:54:05 PM »
So I took a trip up to Mosquito Creek campground in Banff yesterday for some winter camping with the Jeep.  Temps dipped down to somewhere in the negative teens.  My guess is water in the rad frooze overnight and when I decided to get an early start to the day, (5am) 10 mins into the drive all hell broke loose.
One big explosion and LOTS of steam later, it was a 5 hour walk/hitchhike to Banff.
It completly exploded the plastic top part of the rad and left a giant gaping hole.
Gotta love the cheap plastic/aluminum combo!

Anyone have a good line on a replacement rad?  I'm HOPING to get something under $100... :-\
She's still stuck up on Bow Pass...  :(

If I remember correctly, the local radiator shop here in Lethbridge sold a copper/brass replacement for $210 a number of years ago.  I doubt you will get an upgradge for $100, just a used plastic/aluminum piece of junk.  I would recommend staying away from stock.
