I am considering converting the rear drum brakes on my D44 Comanche to disk brakes using everything from a 1995 Crown Vic. I have collected all the goodies necessary to do this and it looks pretty straight forward except for the e-brake cable. I have searched the internet looking for options to hook up the e-brake and found that most who do this type of conversion don't even bother to hook up the e-brake which seems like not the best idea.
Has anybody done this conversion and how did you hook up the e-brake???
Having just completed a disc brake conversion , I feel qualified to add some comments.
I used chev truck ( cuz mines six lug ) & Monte carlo components , nevertheless the conversion is similar. I was concerned about how to deal with having a park brake , feeling I'd not want to park on steep grades without one.
There are a few choices , ask Bill about swagelok components. On mine I went with dual Mico lock valves , expensive ? , uh huh , effective ? definately ! , I can lock & hold front , rear or both when parking. I SHOULD MENTION it's not legal , cable / mechanically applied park brakes are required as a backup to hydraulic brake systems by law. My setup is kinda outlaw but works well. There's nothing ghetto about the way mine is plumbed , 1st class fittings and hoses were used , it just doesn't comply with legal requirements.
