lights
« on: January 18, 2009, 12:32:10 PM »
hey all, kind of a dumb question but I am going to ask anyway. I have mounted lights on the Heep and I have wired them to work but what is the best way to run the wire them self ? I don't want then out side the Jeep because I don't want to start a fire or short something out with all the water and other things. should I drill a small hole in the roof and get a rubber seal or should I just snake into the cab and call it a day ? thanks for all the help

Mitch

Where on the Jeep did you mount them? What style of jeep?  Did you use a relay
Buy some safety glasses.
You can jackoff with a fake hand but you cant see out of a glass eye.

they are on the OEM roof rack of an 88 XJ and no I didn't use a relay I couldn't figure them out so I just wired them it should be good with just a fuse

Most normal light switches can't handle the high current needed for lighting applications this is why a relay is necessary... http://ovo.ca/wiring/wiring.html decent  explaination with diagrams for wiring up your lights with a relay.  As for running the wires from a  roof mount I'm not really sure what you want to do there...never done it myself.

Use a relay, it will save headaches later.

I would drill a hole in the roof. Do you have and overhead trip computer or the module up near the the front center of the windsheild for the factory door remotes? If so you can drill the hole above that and snake the wiring thru there. That's how I mounted my CB radio.
