hardwire Warn 8274?

Okay, made a stupid move an bought a winch controller that doesn't fit my winch (thought it was a 4 pin, it's a 5 pin winch...whoops).

So, my options now are to find another controller, or maybe just hardwire the winch to the cab.  What's the best way to go?

Does anyone have their winch hardwired, or does everyone just use a controller?

On my old 8274 I ripped the end off the controller. Rather than spend a stupid amount of money on a new end I just wired in a flat 4 trailer  connector. Its just on a pigtail hanging out the back of the solenoid box.

At work we have a tilt deck trailer with a winch that had the connector replaced with  simple 110V plugs. They just cut a hole into cover big enough for the female end and then wired the controller into the male end. Plug in is as simple as plugging in a toaster. Doing it this way allowed multiple remote spots to plug into instead of just on the winch itself.

Basically you can do it however you want. Nothing saying you HAVE to use the Warn style connectors.

I've had mine wired to control box mounted on the dash for about 15 years. I only use the remote when I'm by myself and need to run winch line, so I'm  right there able to see what's going on when the line is coming out as well as coming in.

The box has an on off toggle to power up the winch and a separate push button for each direction. The toggle keeps from accidentally running the winch before you're ready to feed in or out.

I plan to hard wire mine in. My plan is to mount a microswitch on the shifter for spooling in when you don't have a free hand. I will also have a power switch and spool out switch on the dash or console.
