Coolinf off a station wagon

Does anyone have a heating issue with their stock set up in their xj? I'm thinking about swapping to a taurus fan. Is the stock clutch fan, and electric fan set up; ok for slow trail work, and daily driving? Or should I upgrade?

I have had no issues with mine, last summer, or this winter.

When does it run hot? If it cools okay at speed but cooks in the bush then airflow issues, bigger fan good, electric best with cut off switch for water crossings. Mechanical fan rough in mud/deep water. If runs too hot all the time, change the t stat and when you drain cooling system, pull off lower hose and see how fast it drains. Give you an idea if the rads getting plugged up inside. Upgrading to thicker rad ( more cores) is a good idea. Less need for fan assistance as it can radiate the heat away better.

I often had heating issues with my XJ. Once in was a bad fan clutch, another time it was plugged with mud.

Near the end I put in a three core rad with filler neck and ditched the stock preure bottle setup. Also put in a new fan clutch and this seemed to solve the problem. Some of the earlier XJs with 5psd trannies and no AC came with a single core rad. If its an auto adding a bigger tranny cooler helps take some load off the rad.

In the V8 ZJ I have a Taurus fan and it works great for the trail but on a REALLY hot day on the highway it still runs hot. Not sure a Taurus fan would work in an XJ, its fairly tall.
