check your fuses, pull a plug wire and check for spark

CPS - Crankshaft position sensor...... seems to be a typical place to look on 4.0Ls.... i've changed it on every 4.0L i've owned now.....

I was driving yesterday and it was ok, then this morning nothing

Fire is good, Fuse's are good
I can hear the fuel pump when i start it but does that mean it is acctually working?

CPS eh?  I'll have to locate that under the hood
Thanx

save you some trouble, its on teh back of the transmission bellhousing on the drivers side..... i'm sure someone else can chime in with even more specific placement of the sensor... if u have a haynes manual that'd help too!

This happened to me last week. Drove to work fine, after work...cranked and cranked but no start. Smell gas, pump priming, not air...ahs to be spark. Turned out to be the coil.
My greatest fear is that when I die, my wife sell all my stuff for what I said I paid for it.

My experience with CPS is that it will crank and start but immediately die.

CPS is about the size of an AA battery and has a couple wires running from it to a plug just up near the throttle body. On my 94 Cherokee it is found on the bellhousing on the drivers side between about 9 and 10 o'oclock and is held in place with 2 bolts.

Alright guys thanx for all the help, we got her going - There was three things involved

01. The coil needed the connection cleaned - might not have been the problem
02. A guess there is a fuel relay of sorts - thats what my buddy thats a mech said, So I clean the connection on all the relays under the hood on the pass side
03. It was flooded pretty bad after trying to start her - took the plugs out and torched them

after these three things i got it going

but i was on deerfoot and she sputtered a bit for about 10 secs - may need a new fuel filter

were you turning when it sputtered? do you have tilt steering? might be a pinched wire in steering column due to tilt steering. mine did it to me twice... and a hard left, and on a easy left turn. scared the pewp outta me.... big rig on my bum.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

LOL scary :o   Um it was the off ramp from 130th ave se to deerfoot north, not a very sharp turn, I was going straight and when i step on the gas to speed up it sputtered so after 10secs I floored it and it was fine after that
