gear and tier combos
« on: April 26, 2009, 11:32:55 PM »
I am looking to get as much info as possible.
I am looking to go to 33x12.5 tiers. I plan on doing some long drives with the XJ (Ft. Mac, Vancouver Island, ACE and possibly back to Ontario). I would like to get the best gear ratio that gives me a good, or as good as can be expected on road as well as off road capabilities. I will also be eventually pulling a trailer with the camping gear and supplies.
Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?
The obstacle is the path.

Stock axles? 4.0 engine, as I'm sure I would have heard you complain about a 2.5 by now. :)

I'm thinking 4.10's or even 4.88's with some BFG TA/KO's, or some Yokohoma Geolanders for street driving (just put a set on the dodge....nice smooth ride, good traction).

Oh ya I have a 4.0L. D30 front, C8.25 in the rear and both are going to be built and trusted by Brink or DSO what ever name gets cut into the metal.

4.88 will not fit into the C8.25.

I think 4.10 would be ok.  They come stock on JK's and have to spin 32's

I have 4.10s will my 33s in my YJ and it does decent on the highway.  I can usually cruise at about 110-115 km/h on the highway, that the 4.10s did decent offroad as well.  The 4.56s will give you more power on the highway and of course a better crawl ratio, but your engine will be running at a higher rpm on the highway.  Talk to blair as he is running 4.88s in his TJ with 33s.

4.56 is as low as a 8.25 will go, and its the ratio you want.
