I had a lift put on my 04 TJ Rubicon about a month ago. I've noticed a burning smell (smelt electrical) 3 or 4 times while driving; usually after about 30 mins.; a couple of times I noticed a whiff of smoke but thought it was exhaust on cool days. Today I found the source of the smell and smoke - from the drivers side rear wheel.
I've popped off both rear wheels and the driver side is definitely tight to turn around. Pasenger side turns free.
No leaks in the rear end. Brake fluid is good. Rear diff fluid is good. Both brake pads appear to be the same. No noticable large grooves on the brake discs.
The metal surface on the hub in front of the disc brake looks flakey. If I took a wire brush to it, it would come off. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Calipers seizing? Some thing worse in the axle?
