Learning to Weld

I want to take some beginner classes or something to learn to weld. I have work I need to do on my jeep soon. and thought it would be more fun to go out and learn how to do it myself. any suggestions were to get it done.

I think Sait offers a course. but was wondering if there were a few other places I could go to learn.

I'm in the same boat, SAIT was the only place I could find that offered a course, but they didn't have a course until Sept or Oct IIRC

You could probably go to SAIT bookstore and pick up some of the books, read them over. Then after you get some of the theory I've got lots of scrap metal, and a arc, a mig, and a tigg you could play with for the cost of the consumables that you use.

that would be sweet. I am looking at a few books right now on the basics of welding already have learned alot from just some internet searches. I may take you up on your offer.

If you talk to someone at sait you can get the book list for their intro welding coarse,then go to theh book store and take a look. Everything used to come in modules and weren't to bad for price, plus you can pic and choose what you want to pick up.

is there anything specific I should look for for the kind of welding I want to do. EI Bumper Fab, Bracket Fab, Simple repairs stuff like that. Mig, Tig, Oxy/Ace?

I have taken the SAIT courses through continuing education. They are well worth the money and you will learn how to weld properly from specialized instructors.  You can write the cost of the course off your income tax

looking at WELD-203,204 probably just cover off the basics before I start playing with it. and before that I beleive 238 I think it is

When I took these courses the SAIT instructors made WELD-236 first, sort of good old fashinioned welding,puddle control,etc.

It is an education deduction on your tax return.
