CB Tuning help at 101?

Hey, I was wondering if anyone going to the off-road 101 has a swr meter and would be willing to give me a hand to tune my cb before we get started.

I think i need my tuned too if possible, I'm not getting any good reception

Its not your rig Pat, no one seems to be on the air.  I dont even bother to turn mine on in the city now.

I put mine on in the city on channel 19, thinking it will be busy, but i always here some guy making fun of "old smelly truckers" he say's.   
and the answer is always some trucker screaming through static. maybe i don't need a tune , maybe need a better antenna, and a noise filter

I have to work on noise reduction.  My reception seems fine until I turn on the key and can hear every computer, wiper, motor, ignition etc. start up.  So much noise, it takes a good signal to get past the noise and therefore the squelch.  Just remember, unless you have a tuneable antenna, tuning can get somewhat complicated.  I have a meter and am in the NE.


PS: There doesn't seem to be a lot of traffic on CB in Calgary lately, but despite a low SWR, perhaps my rig has poor reception.


Sounds like you have a bad ground somewhere. You might want to try and run right to the frame or something like that, unless you have already tried that.  When you key up your mic watch your meter on your radio, the needle should not hit the end you want to adjust it with your swr knob so that it is just in the green while you are keyed up on the mic.  Now just tune the squelch out easy and all is good.
If you really want good cb coverage go and see the radio guy over at the road kill truck stop and get yourself a galaxy radio pricey but good radios work really well in the Rockies.

Yeah, I have a tuning tip antenna...I am up in airdrie, I was hoping to do it at the offroad 101, but if one of you guys is willing to give me a hand one night this week, that would be sweet too, especially if its only a short trip to your place.

I'll bring my SWR meter to the 101 and people who have CB's that need tuning can use it.  The gravel pit should be big enough to get a good tune.

@ tinkerer i will try to remember my butane soldering iron for you. it would be nice if everyone has a great day and i would hate to see someones day be just ok because of a faulty wire.
