Help Please!
« on: August 03, 2009, 09:16:51 AM »
I'm in the middle of my t-case swap, long story short... I need to swap over the DS Yoke on the front side of the 242 case to my 249 front half & I don't have this socket for the nut.
I have a 1- 1/4" socket but it's just a tad bit to big... It's hard to measure the nut also as it's sunkin the yoke a bit... I have a tourqe wrench & have the specs, just need to remove this nut from both front halfs and swap.

Is anyone availible today that has a socket set & bench vise so I can swap these around?
Both cases are split apart & my jeep is down from driving..  I have use of a truck, but I need to get this one up & running...

Thanks!

Thanks Tinkerer..

1-1/8" is the size, I was able to get a measurment & got the socket, the fun part was no vise..
A few special breaker bar technics, some sweat & the aid of my lovely wife, I was able to crack the nut.
Just in the middle of assy... thanks man, I appreicate the responce!

Sure was... :P
All I can say is... I highly recommend anyone with a 249 t-case to get rid of that power robbing paper weight!!! ASAP..  :D
What a difference, I can't even stress how much better this t-case is compared to what I was hauling & lugging around in rush hour..
Came across a few obstacles along the way, snapped cross member bolts on one driver side & wrong gear cut, the case was pretty much completely torn down for a re-build. I ended up having to hybrid the case as I predicted previously, all in all.. I'm proud of my work & it's complete!
No more driveline issues... Gonso!

In addition to this I was able to grab a build sheet from Chrysler when I picked up my seals.. Never would have thought that I had the 46RH Trans.. Interesting.. I thought all 5.2's had the 44RE.. I missed that one..

& thanks agains for offering assistance Tinkerer..

I know I'm just rambling at this point, but oh well...
Never would have though I could compare my Grand to my old rear wheel drive Supra.. We be drifting around corners..
Need to get use to this, not so much gas around corners when wet out..  :P
