Wheeling in Fish Creek
« on: July 29, 2009, 09:12:11 AM »
Hey Guys,

I sold my jeep to “Whiteout” and have been going through Jeep withdrawal. As funds are a little tight to get a trail rig, I decided to get the next best thing, a RC jeep/crawler.

This thing is sweet, It comes in a kit and took me about 15 hours to build. I decided to paint it to match “JOhnnyC’s” YJ, im kinda hoping he gets one too lol

I am going to put a working winch on this thing next week, along with more "realistic shocks"

I am not sure if posting live links is permitted if not, my apologies in advance

This is a trail vid of my jeep

here is a link to the kit (if interested)

Do I still classify as a “Jeep” owner? ;)

Great video.  I think if you are soo addicted to jeeps that you buy an rc jeep and video it you still qualify as a jeep owner. !! ;D

i know your neighbour is cool and all, but do you really need to build a jeep in envy of his?  i think it needs.................... a winch and swingout rear bumper......... hehe. and a rocket launcher...... u know, for the zombpocalpse ;)

and yes. i might buy one..............

I did the same thing!! I built an AX-10 Axial, and put a HPI Jeep body on it. I know some guys that actually hold comps, both fun and pro. If you want to go crawlin together sometime I know a couple good spots.

here is the calgary club: http://www.Calgaryrc.com

have fun with that thing! I almost bought the Toyota FJ originally, and they released the YJ version after I did my axial.

Hey FullMetalJeep

nice crawler you got!! i would love to go out and hit the rocks with you.

My buddy Aaron (aka Medic) is really big in the crawling scene. (he is sponsered by Eastridge Hobbies who gave him the Tamiya Jeep and in turn gave it to me)

Thanks for the props on the vid, I wish I could take credit for it but Aaron (Medic) was the one who filmed and edited the video. If anyone is looking to have a full size trail run filmed he's the guy.

The AX-10's are nice. My wife bought me the ARTR for Christmas, put in a Tekin fxr speed controller and motor (55T I beleive) and use a 3S lipo battery, much more fun than a lower voltage nimh; still goes plenty slow for crawling but you can goose it over obsticles with no issue.  Used the coiled lead from the Walmart fishing section for weight in the wheels and can get it almost verticle.

Jason at Eastridge was a huge help with picking the speed controller and giving advice.  Another good place to go is Action Hobby, Doug and Donette have always been good help and ordering stuff from them is painless.  I'd stay away from PM Hobycraft, the big box store feel kinda rubs me the wrong way and their response when asked if they have a part is "sure, come down and check it out"; but most of the time when I'm looking for something specific and they say they have it, they don't.  I'd rather support the first 2 mentioned.

If you're into speed the Traxxas Rustler VXL is pretty fun and fairly tough.  The sand paddle tires you can get for them are pretty sweet.

I told my wife they were for my son, whom is 4.  He can drive the rock crawler pretty good, but it might be a few years before I let him try out the rustler.

He likes the drivers seat.  He has to stand on it to see out though.  He wants to take it to grandma and grandpa's for holidays but I think we'll have to take the cherokee for room.
