Sensitive Brakes.

Hello Everyone... I am not sure if I should have posted this topic on my "New Gears" thread or if I should start a new thread so if I did this incorrectly please tell me. I am not sure if there is a limit on the number of threads that I can start.

I have had my jeep for around eight years now and ever since I got it whenever it rains or I go through a puddle my brakes get super sensitive. I can accidently bump my brake pedal or just rest my foot on it and I will come skidding to a stop. I dont understand why that is happening. I have talked with friends and they dont beleive that this happens until they ride in the jeep with me and see what I mean.

Does anyone have any of the same problems or can anyone tell me why that happens?

I've also noticed this phenomenon happen on rainy days. Are you running stock brakes? I  recently  upgraded my front pads to Hawk Ferro-Carbon and now my brakes are a little "grabby" on rainy days with little or no modulation. Takes some getting used to. No problems on normal sunny days though.

You bet stock brakes. I have had them changed a couple of times and it doesnt matter any set that go on my Jeep are always really sensative in wet conditions.

the rear shoes in my xj grab the first time i touch the brakes every morning. if someone knows why please tell us!

ZJ, YJ, MJ, CJ, KJ....everyone I've owned has all done this when wet the first few times braking.

hey, its better than when you go through a mud hole and get them all caked and gooed up with mud..... then you hit the brakes and nothing happens...................... methinks thats worse.............

 i'll see if i can get my YJ brakes wet on teh way home today and see what that does. but when my brakes grab and actually STOP me, im' pretty enthralled, so we'll see

This is a common problem, it happens on my XJ.  If you search JeepForum, you'll see lots of posts of people complaining about the rear brakes locking up after the first few stops after damp or wet weather until you use the brakes and rear shoes dry out a bit.

look at them in the morning, typically there is a film of rust on them that makes em grab.  you should see my old van, its real bad - first brake or three the tires squeal to a stop.
