AURS WAIPAROUS ANNUAL VOLUNTEER DAYS!!!!

What an excellent day! Waiparous Volunteer Days was held on September 17th. Over 240 people registered in the morning to assist with projects for the day.  Among the projects completed were two new bridges on Lost Knife, a new section of trail was made on Meadow Creek to bypass a sensitive area and restore passage. Volunteers salvaged a quad bridge from the Fallen Timber Creek that had been washed away by flood damage (to be replaced at a later date).  The cleanliness of the area continues to improve each year, with very little litter to be hauled out.
The AURS would like to give thanks to all the companies and businesses that made donations throughout the year, and a big thanks to all of the volunteers that helped out at all the events!!

*We should have an update on our website shortly with photos and information on projects still awaiting completion.

Please take note that some bridges in both Waiparous and McLean, have suffered extensive damage and have since been closed to all users. Even if a bridge looks stable, many have damaged abutments and may collapse if traveled on. Please use caution at all times and try to avoid these and other sensitive areas until repairs can be made.
If you would like to donate time or materials to the AURS to repair them, please contact the AURS at [email protected]!

AURS and Land Access

Information on the Ghost/Waiparous Access Management Plan (GAMP) has been released. We suggest each of you attend all AURS General Meetings and visit our website at www.aurs.org to learn more about the draft and check for updates regularly.

The plan proposes closures to 95% of current trails systems in the Ghost/Waiparous, with heavy restrictions to random camping as well. The AURS has attended numerous meetings involving stakeholders, in an effort to get details of the plan and open lines of communication between users and Government.

GAMP is fast approaching! We ask that each of you continue to send in letters. There still has been no final release date set for GAMP.

The final date for stakeholder and public input was November 10th 2005. We are awaiting further feedback regarding the GPS info the AURS handed in. We will keep you updated as the information becomes available to us! Each AURS member should have received an Email with a form to fill out and fax off. If you did not receive an Email, please let us know so you do not miss any future updates!

AURS and Red Deer Canadian Off-Road Expo

September 10th and 11th were the dates of the first ever Canadian Off Road Expo in Red Deer, and the AURS was there!  This was a very good opportunity to make our presence a little stronger in the Red Deer area.  The show saw over 4500 people in paid attendance.  The AURS was pleased to organize the rock challenge portion of the show, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  We had six vehicles in the 38" and up class, which was won by Dave Lajeunesse, and five vehicles in the 37" and down class, won by Kevin Lowen.  Inside at the booth we had the chance to meet many people and to sign up 10 new members.  This was a great event and we look forward to next year's, which will be held indoors. We would like to look into holding a Trials Course next time around. If you are interested in participating, please contact us at: [email protected].

Special thank you to our very own Tim Garton for organizing such a successful event, and to our other volunteers!
