Mad props to Calgary EMS

So I figured that I could bang out some work on the Jeep before class so I grabbed the paint stripper and went to work on my bedlined grille, forgot my safety glasses (I should know better, I worked for two years where they were mandatory for 12 hrs a day. Plus I have like 4 pairs).A gust of wind or just a drop flew back and caught me right in the eye   Burned like hell and blurred my vision to the point I could barely see. Started flushing it out while I was on the phone to the EMS guys and they showed up 6 or 7 minutes later (felt like an hour).  Checked me out and I'm fine except my eye is nice and red , it was already sitting on the paint for 10 minutes so it didn't gel up on my eyeball.

Moral here is to ALWAYS use safety glasses no matter what size the task or what your doing on the Jeep. 

The paramedics were awesome, very professional and got here nice and quick.

Good to hear you're ok.  I am guilty of doing "just this little thing" without safety glasses... and its a good reminder to me to always throw them on.

I'll add to this one........always make sure you get a GOOD pair of safety goggles. 

Years ago while working, I was supplied with the cheapest safety goggles that money could buy at the time (I honestly think they came from the dollar store)  The air hammer bit I was using literally exploded and some shrapnel went through the lens of the glasses (The safety goggles showed no damage unless you looked REALLY close)  I went to seek medical attention and they missed a piece of steel the size of a ball point from a pen.   This cost me the vision in that eye and nearly the eye itself .  Two surgeries later (including lens replacement) I have at least 90% vision back (but it's still not the same )

Even more expensive ones, read the labels. The lenses are made to protect against different hazards and many clearly state they aren't for any kind of projectile hazard like that.

Also lucky it was just paint stripper.

Had a painter at work get gun wash in his eye.  The stuff is made to strip through paint thats globbed all over stuff (like inches worth of paint).  The stuff eats through skin quite well, breaks down leather, and dissolves plastic like nothing, so he was in a good deal of pain.  It got to the point we exhausted ALL our eye wash bottles, all our refills and we ended up just irrigating it under the tap until some medics showed up.  Burned the tissue bad enough he had to wear a patch over it for almost a week and a half to make sure that NOTHING could get in there.  He was lucky he had his safety glasses on and only got a little in there, and only one eye.  Looked at his glasses on the floor after he was gone and there were two spots where the plastic was almost dissolved right through.  Lucky......

When I was a framer I saw a guy using a nail gun and the metal wire that holds the bundle together went into his eye.... *shudder*  I drove, and another guy did nothing but keep him from touching it.....  *more shudder*

This all reminds me that I should nab a couple extra pairs from work next week and leave them in the jeep.

It's always good to have a pair in the Jeep ... just incase you get a branch in the face while you are driving. Some folks drive "ACE Ventura Style"

I've found these to be the safest safety glasses available.  They are very comfortable and come with an attached respirator.

good point Dom, i think a couple summers ago we were wheeling some awesome trails out west. i was chatting with my buddy that joined me and a brunch swung in through the open window. i couldnt see for 10 minutes. not fun at all. no permanent damage but the rest of the drive was difficult with one blurry eye.
