Tow Straps on Sale at Princess Auto

i can see it being a good idea to have a tow strap in the truck incase that you might have to pull buddy out of the woods if somethign breaks and he /she cant drive out

but i know if im pulling or being pulled im useing the right recovery strap that will stretch and not impact both trucks

tinkerer has it right, its about reducing the shock load on the vehicle , anchor points and the strap its self. in the crane world we have a saying if it doesn't bend it breaks! everything stretches or bends under load, including chains,but not as much as a specialty recovery strap. i have never used one of those recovery straps but it sounds a bit dangerous that's allot of stored energy if it were to break or even worse an attachment point were to break off  it could be like a sling shot. i am not sure how the princess auto straps and recovery straps are rated, the slings and straps i use are rated on a 5:1 if its rated 10 000 lbs . its minimum breaking point is 50 000 lbs. if a princess auto tow strap is rated for say 20 000 lbs, i am sure that's its breaking strength. it would not take much of tug to reach the breaking strength.

A link to the manufacturer's site of the PA recovery straps.  I have a 2" one from when I had my Dakota.  Pulled out a few loaded half tons out of the mud with it.  Still shows now signs of wear.

Does anyone here actually have the specs for the actual "straps" that were first mentioned in this post?  Tow  straps, recovery straps, etc....?

i am not sure what they mean by safe working load , in the lifting world that would would mean a 5:1, but its a towing strap. it could have a breaking strength as high as 33 330 lbs but i would say more likely 13000 to 20 00 lbs.

all the poster of this thread wanted to do was share what he thought was a good deal, i dont think its bad. that strap could have lots pf uses including lengthening a proper snatch strap, towing a truck or pulling a civic out of a ditch or even a last resort when a proper recover strap has failed. i have lots of room in my truck and tend to have a large variety of  rigging to help me out of most any situation. i would not by one
