CB mounting tech question
« on: April 02, 2010, 10:42:00 AM »
I read somewhere that you need to install a nylon spacer where the antenna connects to the cable, in order to keep it from shorting out where the antenna is grounded to the vehicle....

Bunk, or what?

Uhh not sure what you mean.

Does your cable hook onto the ant with a screw on connector just like the radio end or bare wires with terminals?

Think of it this way there is a positive side and a negative side to the antennae. The actual antenna and the wire inside the cable inside the sheath is the positive side and the base the roof or bracket or whatever it is attached to has to be grounded to outer sheath cable. So sometimes you need that little plastic washer to keep it from grounding out.

The antenna has a spring mount on the base, then a screw on connector that the cable attaches to.

In this case you just screw the connector onto the base. The base takes care of that for you.

Looking at that, I can see how it insulates the inner core....but wouldn't those washers insulate the entire antenna...inner and outer? It is the exact type of connector I am using.

As for using a large metal component, I'm thinking that mounted on the bed of the Comanche will work pretty good.  :)
