Car Hauler Question
« on: January 19, 2006, 12:54:08 PM »
Dose anyone have or use a tilt deck car hauler?  How do you like it?  Loading the vehicle when it is on such an angle is it at all awkward?  I have been looking at them and I like the fact that there are no ramps.  Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Kirk

A friend of  mine has one for hauling his stockcar, works great.  I wouldn't buy one that did not tilt.

I'd stay away from tilt decks unless they are hydraulic operated.  Screw types are a major pain to operate.

I've had quite a few haulers, and am most happy with my current one.

I started out with a tilt deck, and got frustrated and sold it.  Then had a car dolly, which was fine for the car I was towing, but extra scary when you had to tow it empty.  I''ve ran a 18' flat deck, but you needed 6 foot long ramps to get any cars onto it, not I'm running a 20' w/ a beaver tail.  I've got 4.5' ramps, and i can winch a car with flat tires onto it.

If you do get a trailer, be very specific on where you get your axles mounted.  If you are hauling majority of big stuff, have them put them a few inches ahead of stock.  If it's mostly lightweight cars, set them back a bit and keep lots of weight on your hitch.

And whatever you do, don't tow your stuff like this:

The trailer I'm referring to lifted the deck with a hydraulic jack mounted to the bottom of the trailer, worked great, even a realtor could operate it.  I don't know what kind you are referring too.
