McLean Sunday 15th
« on: August 13, 2010, 05:58:03 PM »
Hey just thought I would let people know that I have a group of us coming up from southern Alberta to go wheeling on Sunday morning. So far it looks like there will be 7 or 8 capable rigs in our group. I think we have tentative plans do an easy scenic run to Quirk mountain in the morning if I can remember the way and then we will probably do Top of the World on the way out in the afternoon.
All of us have quite a drive that morning so the plan is to leave Tim Hortons in Brooks by about 7:30am and be at the McLean Store by 10:00am. We will be leaving just enough time to air down and talk about the route before hitting the trails so if anyone is interested in joining they should plan on being there no later then 10:00.
Half of our group is really interested in doing something challenging while the other half is more interested in seeing the sights so we are trying to split our day up accordingly. If anyone has a trail worth recommending, then I would like some input. It kind of sucks driving 2 or 3 hours to get somewhere and either run the same old trail or spend the day looking for a good trail to explore. It has been a couple of years from when I lived in Calgary and my memory is not that great.

Hope to see a few old friends or make some new ones.

The trip turned out great with only a few minor troubles. Eleven jeeps turned out for the run which was supposed to take us to Quirk. By about 1:30 some of the group decided that they wanted to head back so I led three enthusiastic members of our group up to the Quirk ridge look out. None of them had been to the top so it was great sharing something new. Unfortunately the other seven jeeps missed the final destination. It was tough leading that many jeeps as there was a lot of stopping through out our route waiting for everyone to catch up. It is something that I will probably consider before organizing a trip again.
Thanks to Rolicon for riding shotgun and offering some excellant advise to get me through some sticky situations. I put my long arm suspension through its paces when attempting to take a tough line through a deep washout on Fisher West. After getting the tires back on the ground and preventing a complete roll over it was great to see what my jeep was capable of. Then a less modified jeep did the washout and made me look like an amature. Oh well, it was fun.
One more upset that nearly saw my jeep on its lid and Rolicon came to the rescue with expert knowledge of jeep physics. Other than a '75 CJ with a master cylinder brake failure and a Tj with a wet distributor and a JK with a flat tire... it was a fairly uneventful trip. Thanks to everyone who showed up.

If any one has pictures of our run out to Quirk Ridge please PM me or post a link. I think someone got a picture of me just about rolling my jeep crawling through that washout.

Hey man Thanx for giving me a shout to come for the ride. Hopefully I'll be driving mine next time. Was a great day for sure! Thanx for the kind words but I think it was mostly my fat arse hanging off the bumper that got the wheels back on the ground ;D. It was nice meeting everyone else that was out for the ride and hopefully we'll see you on the trails again.
