Good storage solution for JK unlimited soft top windows
« on: August 14, 2010, 09:32:15 PM »
I didn't feel like shelling out $100 bucks for the Mopar window bag, so here is what I came up with  for $13. Buy a fold-up camp chair with the carrying bag. Get some sort of thin fleece (I got a blanket from Ikea for $3) and cut it to the shape of the windows. Lay the fleece on both sides of the windows, roll the windows up together and stick them in the camp chair bag. Voila, you're done. The fleece prevents the windows from scratching one another. At the end of the day, you have a good storage solution for the windows and a bush chair. Win win!

Great idea. I think I'll do this. One minor improvement though.... I think I will ask my wife if she can sew the two pieces of fleece together leaving one side open (using that sewing machine that she really wanted 2 Christmas's ago but which has hardly ever been used....  ;) ). I'll do that for both windows. Then I'll put the windows in the fleece pockets and then in the bag.

Just a thought - perhaps only sewing one side of the fleece together (and slightly around the corners to make a little pocket) might be better, and perhaps velcro straps on other end's corners.  This would allow you to avoid sliding the windows in after a rock (or something else hard and sharp) falls into the fleece and you scratch the window - twice...once inserting and once removing.

Just a thought.

And...once you have it proto-typed, let us know how well it works and post the design plans :)

Agree with the pinstriping, but windows rubbing against each other that are dirty seem to "sandblast" the windows. one of my buddies has that and it is just like looking through sandblasted glass. Boo for that  :'(

I do the same thing with rolling the window inside the fleece blankets, except I stuff them in the MOPAR window bags afterwards. I wouldn't pay full retail for 'em, but I a good price from a guy that had sold his JK.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(
