Well I have finally desided what to do with my YJ...

I am wondering what I should do with my tranny (ax-15). I have it out and I have a new clutch sitting on the work bench, but I'm thinking it may need more then that.

My clutch is like 100% screwed, but other then that, it just started to pop out of 2nd gear alot. Untill the Jeep is warmed up you basically have to hold it there. It has almost 300k on it so im thinking it might need a bit of TLC

Im pretty good with a wrench, but im a bit hezitant on a tranny.

So my questions are...
-Should I get it rebuilt?
-Is it hard to do yourself? (to my understanding it is)
-Do you know of any good shops in town?
-what should I expect to pay?
-will an ax-15 hold up to locked 35"-37" tires?

Not sure about good shops?? I am looking for the same. Thanks for the post I will keep an eye out and let you know if I hear of any.

Manual transmissions are not that scary. Its auto's that are extremely intricate, and should be left to professionals.

Find a book and or exploded diagram, and take your time with it.

Start with a bearing kit from the gear center, then order replacement gears and synchros as required.

ax-15's with a good book of instructions arent bad at all. the harder part is the shift linkage and detent beans. other then that its pretty straight forward. if you bugger it up there are plenty used ones around for sale.
they used the ax-15 behind v-8's so it should be fine for 37's and normal driving.
