please school me on thermostats
« on: January 29, 2011, 08:04:18 PM »
so when it was nice out last week, YJ was running at the right temp.  195 degrees or so.  but; the upper rad hose was bad; so i replaced it today, and now the jeep won't get past the first tick on the temp; gauge.  i cannot get it to warm up for the life of me... i grabbed the upper rad hose, and its empty;

any ideas why my jeep won't get to operating temp?  i would usually say the tstat is open; but woulnd't there be fluid in the upper rad hose?

cheers

I would expect the system to be completely full, so thermostat open or closed, the upper hose should be full of coolant. Sounds like a major case of air in the system.

open the heater all the way park with the rad facing uphill and let all the air out.
