Satellite radio instal in an 04 TJ?
« on: January 31, 2011, 05:57:41 PM »
I want to install sat radio in my TJ.  I have the standard single CD radio.  I understand it lacks a mode button for sat radio.

How can I add sat radio for long drives? I would gladly remove the existing radio and be sat capable only.  I rarely turn the thing on and despise local radio.  As a travelling salesman in the oilpatch I would like the radio to make lonng night drives safer and a little fun.

Any oilfield guys with opinions on sat radio in AB?

Any recommended local Calgary installers?

Any general advice about sat radio?

can look ahead to summer as well when you can't talk on the phone while driving.  a good stereo that has blutooth, satellite and usb and/or ipod may be a wise decision.  as for installation, wherever you buy it (best buy or visions etc... all good)

What ever after market deck you choose, make sure you pick up the wire harness to plug into the factory set up. Installing decks is so much easier now with the mounting plates made for your vehicle and the matching harness. You can find these at Walmart or better yet a quality one from Future shop etc etc.  The wiring is so idiot proof and standard. Don't let the kids in the store scare you away from doing it yourself.   8)

Yeah, any deck you want will be sirius/xm ready, all you need to buy is the manufacturers sat box that plugs in the back which can easily be hidden behind the dash...

A neat trick whatever way to choose to get your satalite radio, you can run the reciever(antenna) up under the padding of the roll bar and have it sit on top...enough clearance for both soft and hard top, and 100% hidden and out of site.

Canuck Bob send me a PM if you want to discuss a few options for Decks and/or satellite radio's.  I work for Best Buy/Future Shop and can give you some insight on some of the different units out there.

With whichever option you decide to go with, keep in mind that if you do take it to a retailer to have it installed there are usually guarantee's that go along with the install.  I don't know what some of the others are, but I know our policy is a workmanship warranty for the lifetime of the vehicle.
