Squeak in front end
« on: April 13, 2011, 10:08:16 AM »
Need some advice

When I'm driving my front drivers side squeaks everytime I go over a bump or steer hard

Does anyone know what it might be?

It's a 2007 jeep commander with a 4" lift and 33 inch tires

Thanks

Unit (aka wheel) bearing starting to go or a bushing on one of the control arms. Hitting the bushing with some white lithium grease is much cheaper than unit bearings so try that first.

Dont know a whole bunch about commanders, but you may want to look at your swaybar bushings. If they are wearing they could definately squeak. If that doesnt work out, another good option is to take it to one of the few mechanics that post up here lots. Jay at Chanda is highly recommended.
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

It's a solid axle system... right?

It should be your lower track bar bushing or a control arm bushing... You won't have much force on the say bar unless you take a turn  at higher speed and your body of the commander wants to roll. make sense?

Lay on the ground in front of your  heep (engine off) and  have your wife or a buddy turn your wheel right to left  quickly.... Do not turn fully R&L ..look at all bushings and joints of there is play in them.

I bet it's your track bar!

If they do; change them and it should take care of the noise

good luck

commanders use a IFS front end. sounds like you should look at front sway bar bushings or links. lube them up, and see if the noise changes. if you have spacers on your front coil over shock sertup then it couldnt hurt to go over all the nuts and bolts. better yet, do a re-torque on the front end bolts.
