Front end shake...
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:05:17 AM »
This could be a simple one.. I hope...   when on the road at any speed and hit a bump,  I get a good shake in the front end for a few seconds  The Jeep tracks straight, does not pull to any side. Feels like a bit of wheel hop..   Could it be as simple as the steering stabilizer, or the shocks..? Nothing looks broken on the front end...   It is a 2005 with stock under carrage.... on 31's ... almost 100 thousand clicks and done a lot of trails.   Any thoughts.?

I've had the same since day one... just been to lazy to fix it. Too busy with the wifes yj. It's quite abit different then death wobble... searching for it would be for something totally different. What's he's talking about happens at ANY speed, don't matter if wheels are straight or not and only happens when hits a bump, big or small. I'll guess that it only happens in 2wd as well.

i guess what i am saying is that if you check everything to do with death wobble, you will find the reason for your 'wobble'.
It is where i would START.

My first guess has always been my shocks. It only does it when the axles unloaded so I never put much into it other then figuring a soon to be had lift would cure it (new shocks). Prob where is start. I haven't tried this but... I'm wondering if it still does it in 4wd off gas.

Sooo...your shocks are shot? Should be more of a bounce then a wobble. As said above Just check for play in everything, particularly in your track bar, could be the joint at the top. Steering stablilizers fix nothing.

I have been lucky with this TJ and no death wobble yet...!!!!   I dealt with that in my last TJ. It had great shocks and stabilizer...  I have been busy with work and only had a chance to quickly look for anything broken, I do know that the stabilizer shock was leaking....  that is why I wondered if it would play into this hop or wobble...  I hope it is just as easy as replacing shocks...  I only asked to see if someone else had a similar issue...   When Stampede ends I will take a closer look, until then I'll watch the bumps....   Thanks

Your stock busings are worn out on the control arms. The waggle you are experiencing is the tell tale warning sign that the rig is on the verge of death wobbling.

You can try playing with sabilizers, tire pressures, tire balance, etc etc etc, but in the end, your bushings will still be worn out, and the issue will re surface sooner or later.

Currie control arms are a nice upgrade and would ensure the issue doesnt come back.

Okay... Thanks for the advice...  Seems silly to try and hide it... Fix it right the first time and upgrade too...  !!  Will look at that next week.  Thanks....
