Having tried it in the past I strongly advise against spooling a front axle, even if it is just an offroad rig. I did that on an old 4x4 of mine and it caused me nothing be grief. Broke lots of axle shafts, popped lots of u-joints, couldn't turn on slippery surfaces like in the snow or mud as the vehicle just plows straight ahead, wouldn't track on a slippery side hill. Pulled it out within months.
Unlocking one hub didn't help either, just caused it to pull hard in the direction of the one hub locked in- was always fighting it and in the end I would pop the u-joint of the hub locked in as all the torque was being sent thru that shaft instead of being split over two shafts.
Unless all you do with that rig is straight line runs thru the mud you will be regretting it.
