« on: October 19, 2011, 11:05:14 AM »
k got a 1996 zj with a 5.2l and its  leakin oil from rear main or rear pan area ...

whats the usual area of the two for a 5.2l?

do they have upper intake oil leak issues?

i know the valve covers are leaking got those already but just trying to get a little bit of a heads up before i tear right into removing the trans.....

Probably the rear main, pan gaskets seem to hold up. I believe a 96 will have a one piece seal so the tranny or engine will have to come out. Check to make sure the breathers form the valve covers to the intake are attached, I had one get pulled off and thought I needed valve cover gaskets but didn't.

yeah seems like rear main to me theres a minor amount of seepage on the pan gasket but nothing worth disturbing it over and the valve covers are for sure passanger side is bad enough u can trace it right down side of block.... did the trans pan today it was bad and cork oh so gay cork....

gonna hopefully swap in the 242 sitting here tomorrow got to do the rear trans seal....and then it might almost be leak free lol
