Are you planning on driving it there or taking the tires loose. Having worked for a number of tire shops in my life, I agree with their position. The studs will never stay in and it can damage their studding machine when they hit tiny rocks hidden inside the holes.

First question is are these brand new tires that you just decided you wanted studded or do they have some miles on them?

Second question is are you willing to go through the painful process of cleaning out every hole and then bringing them loose to the shop. They can't be studded on rims properly so they have to be dismounted and then rebalanced. If you are willing to clean out eaves of the holes and bring them in loose they may do it for you if they are still fairly new.

Canadian Tire in Shawnessy also had a machine as of last year.
