They did end up catching the guy:

Quote
Two days after investigators vowed to find the culprit behind the hit and run that left 22-year-old Faiza Ali Mohamud dying on a downtown street, they made an arrest at an Elbow Dr. home, where they also seized the Jeep believed to be involved.

“Obviously, when we are dealing with fatalities, we pull out all the stops,” said Sgt. Colin Foster, one of several investigators who spent sleepless nights hunting the suspect.

“We made a promise to Faiza and her family we would catch them.”

Robert St. Jean, 36, was arrested Tuesday and is now charged with hit and run causing death in the collision that killed Mohamud, who was struck on Macleod Tr. near 4 Ave.. S.E. Friday night.

Mohamud’s father was “happy” an arrest was made, said family spokesman Mudhir Mohamed.

“They are waiting for this guy to be taken to justice,” he said.

“They want to see everything is done fairly.”

Jessy Larente, who lives in the home with the accused, said the fateful night began with a group going to the Flames game.

Security kicked St. Jean out after he was caught urinating in public.

The man from Quebec and a group left in his Jeep, said Larente.

Police allege that’s the vehicle he was driving when Somalia-born Mohamud was struck.

Larente said St. Jean seemed quiet later that evening but over the weekend went to work, along with several other dry wallers.

At the same time, police were looking for Mohamud’s next of kin, fielding tips from the public on the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle and going through a list of more than 250 Jeeps matching the description.

They also went through hundreds of hours of surveillance footage seized from various locations near the crash scene hoping to find leads.

While they can’t prove whether alcohol was a factor, given the delay between the collision and arrest police said they have evidence St. Jean was behind the wheel when the young woman was hit.

“What we can prove is he didn’t stop,” Foster said.

Initially, five people were taken into custody at the home where the Jeep, registered to St. Jean, was seized.

They said as many as three people believed to be with him at the time have been co-operative with investigators.

While Larente is shocked St. Jean said nothing of the deadly crash, he is also shocked others in the Jeep also remained silent.

“That’s horrible. I don’t care what happens to Bob, he needs to pay for his actions,” he said.

A funeral was held for Mohamud Wednesday and although police know an arrest can’t turn back time, they are pleased the family can at least know someone will go before the courts.

“I told you we would catch them,” Foster said at a press conference announcing the charges.

Mohamud came to Calgary five years ago with her father and brother to find work.

They originally immigrated to Toronto, where her mother and other family members remain.

She had gone for dinner with two friends to the Blue Nile restaurant and was dropped off near Macleod Tr. shortly before she was killed.

I guessed right, the woman who got hit was Somolian and staying at the YWCA whih is a shelter for women. Cops are saying there are atleast 3 people in the jeep, so they probably got some good security camera footage of the driver to have enough evidence to proceed with a trial.

I'm betting on Belfour Der as council for the Jeep.

I'm just wondering on, where in the SW was he nabbed? Been here 30+ years now and couldnt recognize the neighborhood. And I'm from the south end of Calgary.
