Best options for 2" lift on JKU
« on: December 13, 2011, 10:47:30 PM »
Hey guys! After a few wheeling trips with my Islander, I've come to the decision that a lift is in order this spring. I'm looking around to see what options are the best to go with, and am seeing very good review for the 2" Old man EMU kit. If I choose to go that route, which is the kit I am supposed to get? What are some other options?

Cheers!

I just got an OME 2" hd coils in the front and did the rs9000 Rancho shocks. Love the ride.

Call Stan at Northridge4x4.ca, a coworker just picked up a "leveling kit" and spacers for his ride. Based off what he wanted to do with it, that seemed to be the best bang for the buck.

Call Dave at broken axle, he has very good prices on lift kits.  He also has a two for one install special going on.

After much research I am having Dave at Broken Axle install the 2.5" (really 3" from what I have been told) OME lift kit with HD coils, long travel shocks and upper front adjustable control arms (Currie) tomorrow. Everyone I have spoken to that has had this kit installed absolutely loves it and it allows up to 35s and even 37s according to some on a JK (spacers or different rims needed, possibly different flares/fenders also for 37s). I am thinking about going with just 33s (Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs with studs if they ever become available again (if you have been looking for these you know what I mean) because I want to minimize the wear and tear on the drive system. Although I have also been told the Jk Rubicon which I have can easilly handle 35s with the stock Dana 44s.)

I was told to go with the HD coils on my unlimited because of the extra weight of a 4 door (also know some with 2 door Jks which like the HDs too). I was also advised to go with the long travel shocks to get the most out of the lift. Finally, I was advised to go with adjustable front arms (upper or lower) to be able to adjust the system for the increased height so that the vehicle (steering) performed best on road. I am no technician but apparently the lift moves the steering coponent angles around which can make driving on-road at higher speeds less precise.

I have talked to a lot of very knowledgeable people here on the site and done a lot of my own research over the web and am very confident this kit as outlined here will do everything I want it to do and then some (great off-road capability while still being tame to drive on road).

Also, I have heard nothing but good things about Dave at Broken Axle and my personal experience with him has been great. So, needless to say I am going with him. However, I have also heard nothing but good things about Jay at Chanda. So it seems either would be good to go with. It just depends who may have time when you want to get your work done.

The reason I'm asking is because I like the Old Man Emu kit, however is there something similar that is made in Canada or the USA? I'm all for supporting our economy, and I have always been a fun of buying north american products. Part of the reason why I'm driving a Jeep instead of an FJ!

Buy some Currie components to go with the coils and shocks :)
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(
