Buying used parts from the States
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:54:24 PM »
So,

I bought some junk from the states and we plan to pick it up during our spring vacation.  It will fit in the back of the truck, but what should I expect at the border?

Is it any better to cross into Alberta vrs BC with the parts?

I hopefully will pick up my new 42's while down that way..  I realize I will have to pay GST on those..

I found sweet grass a pain to bring things across but if u have all your paper work in order its not that bad. I liked going back on the BC side just less pain full . Smaller border crossing not so much traffic better all around.

Last time I crossed at Roosville I had 6 guys come out of a shed with loaded shotguns pointed at my head.... All because the derriere chapeau at the booth forgot to give my drivers license back to me after approving me to cross. They hit the sirens and next thing I know i had sucked the fabric off my seat, and I can still taste it... All the crossings I've made through BC have been pleasant.
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

Have all your receipts from the purchases with you printed out nicely.
i brought back $3000 of various stuff i bought off the net. i printed all the email receipts i received prior to going down. i highlighted the totals (not including any shipping charges).
i than put all those highlighted totals on a separate word doc. i added up for a grand total. i than used the USD conversion to CDN. After i got the CDN total, i added 5% GST.
That 5% is what i paid the border. They were very happy i did all that. Another guy there was not as prepared. He was there when i arrived and still there after i left. Being that prepared, they did not even look at what i brought back.
