Cherokee shackles hitting the unibody
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:35:18 AM »
I have a 3.5" full leaf pack rustys lift on my 2000 jeep cherokee.  Over the weekend I was wheeling around with 3 guys in the back and when going bumps the shackle/rear leaf eye would smash into the unibody.  I had never had that much weight in the rear and obviously the leafs compressed and pushed the shackle back causing it to mack contact.  Would a extended shackle fix this problem?  Do I need boomerang shackles?  Do I need a shackle relocation bracket?  Any advice is appreciated.

Shackle relocation brackets with longer shackles set in the middle setting(you'll have 3 positions), and bumpstop the crap out of it and you won't have that problem again. I've got a lot of weight in the back of my XJ in the form of a fullsize spare, tools, recovery equipment , spare parts etc and have never had my shackle hit the unibody even after launching the pig in the air and landing hard. Cheaper alternative would be to take the rear seat out and tell your 3 friends to get their own rigs.
