XJ alternator relocation mod
« on: August 21, 2012, 01:41:54 AM »
So I've been wanting to do this mod for a while now. Unfortunately I flipped my last XJ before I got the chance to do it.

I was out camping with Jonas for August long weekend and he had beat me to the punch ;)
He tackled this mod and after I saw how easy it could be done, decided to take the plunge myself. It didn't take much convincing as my A/C pulley had seized up since that weekend preventing the belt from moving at all (made a hell of a squeal when firing up the engine) so this made it undriveable until I did something about it.

The thread I used for guidance is here:

The only real difference between mine and Jonas' methods was that he kept the clutch fan pulley whereas I got rid of it to make room for an electric fan, so we are using different belt lengths.

Super simple mod, all that is required is an angle grinder, some nuts and bolts, a new (shorter) serpentine belt, and if you have a post-Renix XJ you'll also need a Renix-era upper rad hose.
