Merry Christmas to me!
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:41:04 PM »
Hey all,
After getting engaged a couple of years ago, and finally getting married in July, my Jeep budget has been extra tight the last couple of years.  We went on our 3 week honeymoon in December, and I think that's the last big expense until procreation, which I hope will be a lilttle while off.
The point of this short ramble is that I finally have money to spare for new tires and wheels, hence the title of the topic.  Feel free to spout off some opinions on the subject.

Jeep Facts: '89 Cherokee Pioneer, 4.5" lift, factory D44 in back, 30 up front, stock 3.55 gears, extensive fender chop & smash and ugly TJ flares, dirty seats, someone else's dog's hair on the hatch carpet, rust and body holes abound.  It isn't a daily driver, but it needs to drive itself to the trailhead, and I do use it when my truck is out of commission, or when I'm bored of driving something comfortable.

I want to run 33" x 12.50" Mud Terrains of some description, and they will be new, no more used rubber.  I've run BFGs before, the old style KM1s they were pretty good, lousy on-road in the winter though.  I had a set of used Radial TSL swampers, which I sold when I got engaged, but I didn't like their road manners, so I won't go that direction again.  I don't want a heavy tire, which makes me shy away from the toyo,   :o  although I realize that it is a cardinal forum sin to type that.  I hear good things about MTZs, and I'm curious about General's new grabber, but I've changed my mind on tires so many times now I'm more confused than when I was 16.
 :-\
I can spend about 2k, all in, and I need wheels too.  I have a couple of 15x8 sahara wheels in the garage, the gamblers, and I still have spacers, so I could run those if I found a couple more for a reasonable price.  If I'm gonna pay money for wheels though, I'd rather get some with the appropriate backspacing, and sell the spacers to help recoup the cost.  Looks are only a consideration if I have more than one wheel choice in the same price range.

I've rambled on for long enough now, hit me with your ideas, or express-post me some ritalin so I can maintain a little brevity and focus for next time I post  :-[

Old picture, those tires are no more, and the fenders have since been modified with the surgical precision of a rhino taking a dump.  I felt this information was somehow necessary to the tire and wheel decision making process.   ;D
