noise when in 4wd
« on: February 17, 2013, 05:47:32 PM »
ok i get a noise, mostly when in 4low. some times it works and most times it dont. just did some work on the jeep and went to test it out last night. i put it in 4 low and went to climb a hill, then all of a sudden, the jeep is not moving up no more, just a sound of grinding like noises. i put it in 4 high  and it would work ?....we tried adjusting the lever and that did not do anything lol.

(it kinda sounds like a chain spinning around and not grabing.)

if the chain on the t case is loose, would that spin when i hit the gas and make that noise, and not move anywhere ?

Sounds like the t case is jumping out of four wheel drive. Mine does that once on a while and I just pull the shifter back a little harder and then all is good.  If the chain was jumping you would still have rear wheel drive and four wheel would still work.  When the chain starts to skip you will hear really loud banging in rapid succesion from your t case.  Almost like some one is hitting your exhaust pipe 3 times in a second with a big hammer very hard. If your chain is stretched change both sprokets as well.

Sounds like your transfer case shifter linkage may not be adjusted correctly and isn't allowing you to get it all the way into 4LO.
