Hard tops and roof racks generally do not have the load capacity to handle a roof top tent.   The tents are not light...  So I would be after a minmum 350 lbs rating....   That's heavy.  I personally would want a heavier load capacity (like 400-450).

The MBRP rack looks sturdy but I would give them a call and confirm the load it can handle.  Last thing you want is bend something.  Also, as you said, you are drilling into the hard top.  Extra weight will cause stress cracks in the top eventually.

Also... just be careful doing corners or off camber with it on...   You are going to really be changing your center of gravity.

there is a picture on the net of 6 adult males standing on top of the mrbp rack (backside only, front not hooked up), so i HOPE it's sturdy. good points on being careful in corners and off camber though! The idea of the holes though... uggghhhh

on the GOBI hand, i noticed a lot of people complain about having to tighten up the bolts every couple days. if that wasn't lame enough, found a thread where this guy crushed in one of the corner panels from the vibration... i'm not sure about them anymore  :-\

I have a GOBI ladder on the back of my XJ and have had zero issues with their quality. Granted when it was installed it was blue locktited on, but the quality of their products as far as Ive seen is exceptional. Never used their racks tho...
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

i got REALLY lucky and found a used MBRP rack and jumped on it instantly. Installed it yesterday and it is freaking SOLID! i can pull on it and rock the jeep as hard as i can and it doesn't even begin to twitch. I have no doubt that it'll hold the tent and 2 people  8) It also took all of 2 minutes to figure out how to take the freedom panels on and off quickly with the rack and lightbar both installed.
