Cowl Intake Air Box DONE PICS INSIDE

Hey guys so tomm im going to make a Cowl intake from a stock box, my question is, can i have 2 filters? a cone filter in the cowl and the stock box filter? will that effect any thing in the jeep? 7

So guys i installed it and yeah there is no way anyone can fit a normal size filter loooooool


First i plugged the existing breather hole

For this i used 4 screws to hold the plastic cover the plastic cover i got it from an antifreeze jug works good and white silicone heat and water resist

At the end i put another 90 facing away from the vent opening this way if i wash the jeep or anything no water will go inside, even if water goes over the hood while off roading  it will drain out wayy before it comes close to get sucked in to the air hole


this whole job cost me 80 bucks with the saw hole i needed

Why would you want or need two filters? I'd just ditch the cone filter, stock ones a good enough job. Plus you won't need to take the cowl off just to change a filter.

Flexible duct works perfect, along with an adapter for a cone filter to enter the cowling. To cover the existing hole in the airbox try a black spray paint lid, fits perfect and a little silicone on the inside holds it good.

i did this in a rush kind of as i did it in the time my dad was asleep  lol and for the white lid i know it sticks out, but i will be paining it soon, also silicone was used from the inside and the out side of the front lid.

Seems like the jeep drives smoother also i noticed im getting 20 km more then i use to with the KNA system i had on there

Here is a thought....

Quick disconnect on the cowl attachment screws.

Then when wet 4 wheeling attach an extension so you have a snorkel.

Then disconnect when done the wet stuff.

Always nice to have the air intake above the water line.

We had a removeable snorkel on the Canadian Forces jeeps in the 80's, that we put on before we crossed water.

I was trying the think of a way to do it.

Your idea is perfect!

Your idea of the air intake in the cowl with a  cam lock end so when wet 4X4ing, add a two foot extension to put the air intake to the roof line .

Then take it off when on the road.

I have had water coming in one door and flowing out the other door and still made it out without killing the engine. (lucky)

Good friend of mine has the Spectre Intake which is more expensively similar to your set up (Very well done btw on yours).  I am looking at doing the same sort of thing and came across several theoretical problems.  splashing water into the cowl area from the little vent, water being too deep and entering cowl, and the like.  My solutions were these.

1.  Get a cowl intake chromy bit and turn it around and paint it black. protects agains the splash.
2. Don't cross water over the hood, its just bad news bears to begin with. Its a jeep, not a naval sub
3. Put the end in the cowl area into the piece of tin under the washer arms.  secondary splash guard and water damn.
