If they are leaking the compressors will continue to run.
The sensor is just a dummy light that grounds out via a metallic contact in the housing. A cracked wire, completely torn out wires, a worn contact, are just a few things that can be wrong with that sensor, causing a falishing light when in actuality the lockers are operating perfectly normal.
If the lockers arent operating normal then it is time to look at compressors, the dash switch, cracked bulkhead fitting, etc etc etc.
But it sounds to me like the lockers are probably operating normally, and there is something wrong with the sensor or wiring to the sensors.
Lock it up somewhere dry and do a few gentle turns to confirm operation for sure and that will elimate any doubt.
