Skool me on TV's
« on: February 08, 2014, 10:25:43 AM »
I'm looking for a new TV in the 65-70" range, $2,000.00 budget.
What's hot and what's not?

Anything bought from the back alley of the T&C is hot.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Vince, go with an LCD if it's going to be in a bright area, plasma if it's in a dark room.... Then get the HD package from your cable provider. And make sure it has lots of HDMI ports.... HD porn, ohhhhhhhh yeah.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.
Here's your cup of STFU... ENJOY!

It's going in a dedicated theatre area that will have black-out blinds to block the light when watching movies. I initially ruled out plasmas but may reconsider.
What about LED's, they any good?

LEDs are still LCDs. They use led to light vs a ccfl. Picture quality from a plasma is still unmatched. But plasmas are still VERY ineffeciant you lose a ton of energy to heat and the actual amount of light cant match either LCD screen. If you are looking in the 70" range than you don't have many options. The sharp quattro is probably your only option in your price range.

I'm on my second Panasonic plasma, 65" . They have come a long ways. You don't have to worry about refresh rate with plasma. Best picture in a dark room. Mine is in a bright room too and it's sill awesome. They still burn a little if the picture doesn't change for a while. They do get war and draw a lot of power to run. Hard to compare when you're at the store and there's 20 different TVs to look at. I got used to how the plasma looks and performs with my first one. Led didn't look right to me so I went with a newer plasma. My guess is they are even better now as I bought my second one 2 years ago.
Costco has options and the best warranty out there.

Tons of problems with my sharp. DO NOT BUY SHARP!!!!!!!!!! This TV hasnt worked in 2 months, been replaced already and the Futureshop repairman is out for the 3rd time now only on the 2nd TV. This 2nd Sharp will be replaced. So the 3 year warranty was well worth it in the end. We just went out and bought a smaller LG.

I picked up a 60" Samsung smart tv from Costco, not quite as big as I was looking for but it will have to do for now.

Better than a Sharp!

I used to sell TVs for a living, Sharp when they came out with the whole 'Quattro-fourth-yellow-LED' thing they went downhill.
