I would weld the tubes to the housing using a Nirod 55x. This rod is high in nickel content so the weld doesn't shrink much and remains very ductile. I used this rod when I did my 8.8 and it worked great with very little preheat and no peeling or post heat. 

It can be done with mig just peen the crap out of it and control the post heat.
